Is the movie The Naked Ape available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Apple TV+?
At Stream Tracker, we keep tabs on where to watch curious pieces of cinema like The Naked Ape (1973). Partially animated and framed as a satirical docudrama loosely inspired by Desmond Morris’s pop anthropology, the film traces human evolution with playful, sometimes provocative looks at primate behavior, mating rituals and social instincts — all delivered in a distinctly experimental early‑70s style and featuring a young Victoria Principal. Produced by Hugh Hefner, it leans into anthropology and social satire rather than explicit content, and it hasn’t picked up any major awards. Want to know if it’s streaming now? Synopsis
Partly inspired by Desmond Morris’s pop-anthropology, this semi-animated satirical docudrama—produced by Playboy Magazine publisher Hugh Hefner—charts the arc of human development while probing the instincts and social drivers behind our behavior. It frequently examines sexual themes but does so in a restrained, non-explicit manner. Representative of early 1970s mainstream experimental cinema, the film also highlights a strikingly young Victoria Principal.
