Synopsis

In Northern Song–era Bianliang, the Zhao family—Zhao Buyou, his pragmatic wife Wen Yue, and their three children—make their home in the narrow lanes of Que'er Alley. Buyou, a humble clerk, longs for a quiet, ordinary life, while Wen Yue pushes to lift their household out of hardship; their frequent quarrels never break the deep bond that holds them together. When a chance incident pulls them into a dangerous, far-reaching investigation, each member is forced beyond their comfort zone, confronting hidden truths and personal doubts. As secrets come to light, the family must grow and adapt to protect one another and defend the neighborhood they call home.
