Synopsis

In her twenties, Miep Gies answered Otto Frank’s urgent request to hide his family from the Nazis, joining a small network of helpers who, with her husband Jan, sustained eight people confined in the cramped Secret Annex for over two years. Risking their lives to smuggle food, news and comfort, they kept the hiding place secret until the occupants were betrayed and arrested. Afterward, Miep salvaged Anne Frank’s diary and preserved it so Otto — the sole survivor of the group — could share the young girl’s words with the world, creating one of the most powerful personal testimonies of the Holocaust.
