Synopsis
In a sunbaked desert town in China, Wang, the miserly owner of a failing noodle shop, rules his life with a cold, calculating eye. His wife, neglected and razor-tongued, has begun a furtive affair with Li, a gentle, hesitant employee who is torn between desire and dread. When the woman buys a pistol and presses it into Li’s reluctant hands, the couple’s secret turns lethal—but Wang is not blind to their betrayal. Instead of confronting them openly, he secretly hires a corrupt patrolman, Zhang, bribing him to erase the illicit lovers and restore Wang’s pride. Zhang, however, is as dangerous and self-interested as his employer, and he brings his own dark plans to the job. Loyalties fray, motives shift, and what Wang imagines will be a clean, satisfying revenge unravels into a chain of deceit and retribution. As schemes collide, the town is drawn into a spiral of escalating bloodshed and sudden, brutal violence.
