At Stream Tracker, we're taking a look at Bubba Ho-tep (2002) — the offbeat cult film that imagines an elderly Elvis Presley living out his days in an East Texas rest home after swapping identities with an impersonator, only to team up with a fellow JFK impersonator and take on an ancient Egyptian mummy for the souls of their fellow residents. In this article you'll find out whether this Bruce Campbell/Ossie Davis oddity is streaming on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or Apple TV+, and where to catch the cane-wielding, hip-shaking showdown. Though not a mainstream awards magnet, Bubba Ho-tep earned strong festival buzz and lasting cult praise for its performances and uniquely strange premise — perfect if you’re in the mood for horror, humor and a dash of rock ’n’ roll mythology.
Synopsis
Elvis Presley, living out his days disguised as an unremarkable retiree in an East Texas care home after swapping identities with a tribute artist years before his supposed death, finds the chance to reclaim his past slipping away. When a malevolent force—an ancient Egyptian mummy—begins preying on the souls of the facility’s residents, Elvis must join forces with an unexpected ally, the enigmatic presence of John F. Kennedy, to protect the people around them. Together they rally a motley band of seniors, navigate sleepy bureaucracy and creeping supernatural horror, and descend into a surreal showdown where fame, regret and redemption collide in a battle for the very spirits of the forgotten.
