We at Stream Tracker take a look at Family for Rent (2023), a quietly comic and tender film about a forty-year-old, timid Paul-André who decides the one thing money can’t buy is a family — so he signs a contract to rent one. Facing eviction and the threat of losing custody of her children, Violette accepts his above-board proposal: he’ll clear her debts in exchange for a temporary, paid family life. The story unfolds around that rented domestic pact — custody, debts, and the awkward, touching compromises that follow “for better and for worse.” Below, we check whether you can stream Family for Rent right now on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or AppleTV+.
Synopsis
Paul-André, forty, wealthy but painfully shy and inward, grows tired of his solitary life and decides what he lacks is a family. Violette, also forty and full of energy, faces eviction and fears losing custody of her two children. He proposes a fully legal arrangement: he will pay off her debts in return for a formal contract that brings her and the kids into his household — effectively "renting" a family. What starts as a pragmatic solution quickly becomes a complicated experiment in trust, belonging and unexpected attachment.
