Is the movie Ocean Waves available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Apple TV+?
At Stream Tracker, we take a look at Ocean Waves (1993) — Studio Ghibli’s quiet, realistic coming-of-age film (original title Umi ga Kikoeru). The story opens with a brief, fateful glance across the platform at Kichijōji Station and unfolds through Taku Morisaki’s narration as a plane rises toward Kōchi Prefecture: a dropped photograph, summer heat, small confessions and an awkward love triangle that linger long after the credits. In this article we’ll map out where to watch it — from Netflix to Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV+ — and tell you which services currently carry the film in your region. Ocean Waves didn’t collect major international awards, but it remains a distinctive, much-loved outlier in Ghibli’s catalogue.
Synopsis
At Kichijōji Station in Tokyo, Taku Morisaki catches sight of a woman he seems to know standing on the opposite platform as a train arrives. Later, moments before leaving his apartment to catch a flight to Kōchi Prefecture, a photograph of her slips from a shelf. He picks it up, studies it for a beat, then heads to the airport. As the plane lifts off, he begins to tell the story of how she entered his life.
