Out in the Open (1997) is a spare, haunting tale of a boy on the run — crouched in his hideaway, hearing the cries of those who hunt him, then forced to cross an endless, arid plain where every step risks exposure. When his path collides with that of a pastor, the fragile map of survival and faith is abruptly redrawn. The film’s dust, silence and wide horizons linger long after the credits, making it as much about inner exile as about a physical escape. Synopsis
A runaway boy crouches in the shadows, straining to catch the fading shouts of men who hunt him. When silence finally falls, he steps onto a vast, sun-baked plain he must cross if he hopes to leave behind the thing that made him flee. His journey collides with that of a pastor — and from that crossing, nothing will remain the same for either of them.
