Synopsis
Ben, left with incomplete quadriplegia after a severe swimming-pool accident, is admitted to a rehabilitation center. There he encounters other patients — people with tetraplegia, paraplegia and traumatic brain injuries resulting from accidents, plus one person who has lived with a disability since early childhood. They wrestle with powerlessness, despair and resignation as they relearn the smallest gestures: coaxing a finger to move, learning to hold a fork. Some slowly regain limited mobility, while others are told their impairment is permanent. Despite the setbacks, fragile hope and the bonds of friendship become what sustains them.
