Synopsis

While reporting on Iran's fraught 2009 elections for Newsweek as one of the few reporters connected to U.S. media, Iranian-Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari appeared in a pre-recorded comedic segment with Jason Jones on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Intended as satire, the interview was taken seriously by Tehran's authorities, who soon descended on his family home, arrested him, and imprisoned him.
