Synopsis
In a rough Marseille housing estate, fourteen-year-old Djibril survives as a member of the Grasshoppers, entangled with Camilla—his pregnant girlfriend, who belongs to the rival Crickets. When he is manipulated into killing Mahad, a young Cricket, the killing ignites a violent turf war. As Mahad dies he hurls a curse at Djibril, and the boy becomes tormented by visions and contact with the spirit world. Convinced an apocalyptic fate is looming, Djibril hatches a desperate plan to flee with Camilla and their unborn child—the only being he believes can break Mahad’s curse and save them all. The law intervenes, however, and Djibril spends the next twelve years behind bars and confined in a secure psychiatric unit. Hardened by time and haunted by prophecy, he will stop at nothing to find his daughter and persuade her to fulfill the destiny he insists will avert disaster.
