Hi — Stream Tracker here. Smiling Fish & Goat On Fire (1999) is a small, quietly funny indie about two brothers sharing a house in LA’s Fairfax: Tony, a feckless actor, and Chris, an accountant. Between Tony’s flirtations with a USPS letter carrier named Kathy and her budding-actress daughter, Chris’s awkward romance with Anna and the steady, mournful presence of Clive, the film drifts between tenderness and comic missteps like a scene shot on a sunlit movie set. In this piece we’ll map out where you can watch it today — whether it’s on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or Apple TV+ — and note rental or purchase options if it’s not streaming. If you love low-key character pieces grounded in family ties, LA neighborhoods and the strange economy of show business, stick around: we’ll tell you exactly where to find this one.
Synopsis
Tony, a carefree actor who drifts from one gigless day to the next, and Chris, a methodical accountant anchored by routine. Both men are navigating unstable romances when their lives begin to intersect with new people. Tony strikes up a connection with Kathy, a mail carrier and single mother who recently relocated from Wyoming with her daughter, an eager young performer. Chris becomes involved with Anna, an Italian animal wrangler spending a few months in the States working on film sets, and also forms an unlikely bond with Clive, an elderly, gruff widower whose fierce devotion to his late wife stands as a moving testament to lasting love. As their relationships deepen, each brother must confront whether he can learn from Clive’s example and grow—Tony into a reliable partner for Kathy and her child, and Chris into someone capable of making sense of his own heart.
