At Stream Tracker, we’re pulling up a chair for Franco Zeffirelli’s Tea with Mussolini (1999) — a bittersweet portrait of expatriate women who, over cups of tea and in sunlit villas, try to shelter and civilize young Luca as fascist Italy and the shadow of war close in. The film blends art, manners and wartime upheaval through an elegant ensemble performance and earned critical recognition, including several award nominations. In this article we’ll check where you can currently stream Tea with Mussolini — whether it’s on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or AppleTV+ — and how to find it.
Synopsis
In 1930s fascist Italy, teenage Luca is left motherless and handed over by his indifferent father, a hard‑nosed businessman, to the care of British expatriate Mary Wallace. Mary and a close-knit circle of cultured friends — the painter Arabella, the newly widowed Elsa, and the archaeologist Georgie — take the boy under their wing, surrounding him with genteel routines and protective attention. Their tranquil, refined world is suddenly upended when the Allies declare war on Mussolini, thrusting the women and the child into the dangers and moral choices of a country at war.
