The Basket

Synopsis

Peter Coyote (E.T., Erin Brockovich) and Karen Allen (The Perfect Storm) star in a warm family drama that shows how a simple game can mend a community fractured by war. In 1918, the wheat fields of Waterville, Washington, fall silent as the town grapples with the arrival of its first wounded soldier home from World War I and the painful realities that accompany him. Suspicion and prejudice rise when two German orphans become targets of the townspeople’s fear, threatening to split the close-knit settlement. Into this tense atmosphere rides a new schoolteacher, Martin (Coyote), carrying unconventional ideas and an old leather ball; by teaching the fledgling sport of basketball, he seeks to bring people together and restore hope before division destroys them.
