Synopsis
Renée Fleming dazzles as Hanna Glawari, a fabulously wealthy widow whose arrival in Paris ignites a whirl of romance and intrigue in Franz Lehár’s beloved operetta. In a sparkling production staged and choreographed by Broadway director Susan Stroman, Nathan Gunn portrays Danilo, Hanna’s former flame tasked with charming and marrying her to keep her fortune tied to their homeland of Pontevedro. Kelli O’Hara is Valencienne, the flirtatious young wife of Pontevedro’s ambassador to Paris, Baron Zeta (Thomas Allen), while Alek Shrader plays Camille, her persistent admirer. Andrew Davis conducts Lehár’s waltz‑rich score, presented in a new English translation by Jeremy Sams.
