Synopsis
Twelve-year-old Emil and his father are dogged by a run of misfortunes, so Emil is sent to Berlin to stay for a few days with the family friend Pastor Hummel. On the train he is duped by the slick Max Grundeis, who drugs him and steals his 1,500 deutsche marks. In the city, Emil joins forces with a band of street-wise children led by the bold Pony Hütchen as they try to track down the thief who has been preying on the elegant Hotel Adlon. Meanwhile, to hide Emil’s disappearance, Gypsi — one of the gang — pretends to be him, setting off a string of chaotic and humorous events in Pastor Hummel’s household.
