Synopsis
Joshua Steed returns to Missouri a wealthy man with a beloved wife, but shadows from his past soon surface. Drawn into a swirl of gossip, lies and betrayal, he watches his family begin to fray. Meanwhile in Kirtland, crippling financial collapse shakes the young Church and ignites doubts about Joseph Smith’s divine authority. Hundreds of Saints head for Missouri, prompting Governor Boggs to raise a militia—and place Joshua at its command—to confront what authorities label the “Mormon Problem.” When the troops are ordered to strike the Mormon settlement, Joshua faces an impossible choice: follow orders or use his position to protect the people he loves from the rising violence.
