Synopsis
In 1938, as Gandhi's reformist ideas spread across India, eight-year-old Chuyia — newly widowed and uprooted from home — is placed in an ashram for society's rejected widows. Her arrival disturbs the ashram's weary routines: through the candid wonder of childhood and a deepening bond with two fellow residents, she awakens compassion, challenges long-held shame, and slowly transforms the community.
