Synopsis

Hano Tama, born in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi in 1897, lost her mother at age two and was raised by her father and his stepmother. After completing a girls’ school she took a position as a substitute teacher but was dismissed and compelled to leave her hometown. Relying on relatives, she moved to Tokyo, where she rekindled a childhood ambition and entered a novel in a literary contest — a decisive move that set her on the path to becoming a writer.
