An American adaptation of the Australian sitcom Kath & Kim, the series starred Selma Blair and Molly Shannon and premiered on NBC on October 9, 2008. Jane Turner and Gina Riley, who created and starred in the original Australian program, served as executive producers and consultants on the U.S. version, which was co-produced by Reveille Productions and Universal Media Studios. The show first aired in Australia on October 12 on the Seven Network but was pulled after two episodes, later moved to an 11:00 p.m. Monday slot and ultimately pre-empted during the 2009 Australian Open after the first-run broadcast of episode nine, "Friends." Despite modest ratings and mixed critical response, NBC initially ordered a full 22-episode season on October 31, 2008, then reduced that order to 17 episodes on January 15, 2009. The season finale aired on March 12, 2009, and NBC confirmed the series' cancellation on May 19, 2009.
