Synopsis
Centuries ago humanity lived beneath the waves, but those who chose the surface were stripped of Ena—the ancestral safeguard that let them breathe underwater—and two societies slowly grew apart while still maintaining fragile contact. The story centers on Hikari Sakishima and Manaka Mukaido and their childhood friends Chisaki Hiradaira and Kaname Isaki, who are forced to leave their submerged homes and enroll at a school on the coast. There they encounter Tsumugu Kihara, a fellow student and fisherman whose reverence for the sea complicates everything. As prejudice and mistrust between sea- and land-dwellers erupt around them, the group must confront personal crises and an advancing, potentially cataclysmic storm that threatens life on the surface.
