On the Buses

Synopsis

Conceived by Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney, On the Buses is a British sitcom that aired across the United Kingdom from 1969 until 1973. After enjoying success with The Rag Trade and Meet the Wife at the BBC, the pair found their new idea turned down by the corporation, which doubted the comic potential of a bus depot setting. They then brought the concept to Frank Muir, who ran entertainment at London Weekend Television and immediately saw its promise; LWT commissioned the series, which, despite lukewarm reviews from critics, became a popular favourite with viewers.
