Synopsis

A small-time gangster from Vorkuta, who always shrugged off his deeds with the motto "that's just how life is," sees his world collapse when the turbulent 1990s give way to 1999 and he is finally sentenced. Behind bars, chronic insomnia consumes him; after weeks without sleep he begins to encounter a strange man who calls himself his conscience and tells him that until he stops being a villain, he will never be able to rest.
