Is the TV show Sense and Sensibility available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Apple TV+?
Sense and Sensibility (2008) brings Jane Austen’s Dashwood sisters back into the drawing-room with a sharper edge: Andrew Davies’ adaptation leans into the hinted passions of the novel—seduction scenes and even a duel—that Ang Lee’s 1995 film left out, pitching Elinor’s restraint against Marianne’s stormy sensibility amid the strictures of inheritance, manners and the social season. In this article, the Stream Tracker team looks at the 2008 miniseries—its tone, its key performances and the way it reimagines Austen’s courtships and scandal—and checks where you can stream it today: Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or Apple TV+. The series earned critical praise and several award nominations; below you’ll find up-to-date availability information and tips for finding the Dashwood sisters on your preferred platform.
Synopsis
A 2008 British television dramatisation of Jane Austen’s 1811 novel, adapted by Andrew Davies, who openly set out to make audiences forget Ang Lee’s 1995 film; his version is noticeably more sexually explicit than many previous Austen adaptations and restores scenes of seduction and a duel that the novel only hints at and the feature film omits. The story follows two sisters as they try to secure happiness within the strict social codes of late-18th-century England: Elinor, composed and self-restrained, personifies sense, while Marianne, outspoken and impulsive, embodies sensibility.
