Synopsis
Since 1954, Walt Disney Productions (today The Walt Disney Company) has presented an anthology television series under a variety of names. The original edition premiered on ABC in 1954 and, apart from a two-year pause in 1984–85, ran weekly on one of the three major networks through 1990—a 36-year stretch that included 25 years of Sunday broadcasts. From 1991 to 1997 the series appeared only sporadically. It returned to a regular fall schedule on ABC in 1997 following Disney’s acquisition of the network and aired consistently there until 2008; thereafter ABC has treated the program as an occasional special presentation.
