Is the TV show World News Tonight available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Apple TV+?

On behalf of the Stream Tracker team, here’s a short intro to set the scene. The name World News Tonight has been used by different broadcasters, but this article concentrates on Sky’s Sky World News Tonight (the 2005–2006 evening programme fronted by James Rubin). Built around a revolving anchor desk and a neon globe, the show mixed in-depth foreign reporting, analysis and live link-ups to correspondents and guests—from Tim Marshall’s foreign affairs dispatches to William Kristol’s frequent US contributions—and even occasional on-location editions from Jerusalem and Aleppo. Short-lived and tightly focused on international stories (with brief domestic updates), it doesn’t appear to have picked up major awards during its run. Below, Stream Tracker checks whether this globe-spanning news slot is available to stream on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or Apple TV+, and what to watch out for depending on your region.

World News Tonight

Synopsis

Sky World News Tonight aired weeknights from 8pm to 9pm UK time, launching on 24 October 2005 as part of a channel-wide revamp. Anchored by James Rubin, the programme concentrated on global affairs, combining extended reports, expert analysis and commentary with brief domestic bulletins—typically read by Chris Roberts or Gillan Joseph, who co-presented Sky News Tonight at 9pm. The same production team also produced Sky World News and the Sky Review and Business Report. The set featured a rotating main desk that positioned Rubin in front of a neon globe, flanked by studio guests, though many contributors appeared via live links from abroad. Regular material came from Sky’s Foreign Affairs Editor Tim Marshall, who also stood in as host at times, while US commentator William Kristol was a frequent remote contributor. Rubin occasionally presented episodes on location, filing reports from places such as Jerusalem and Aleppo. The show was axed on 10 July 2006 in a minor schedule reshuffle and was replaced by Sky News with Martin Stanford; Rubin has remained visible on Sky News as a World News Commentator.
