Synopsis

In the 21st century, Earth became uninhabitable, driving humanity to seek refuge on Zi, a world dominated by living machines known as Zoids. Decades later, as Zi itself begins to die, survivors embark on a return to their ancestral planet hoping to restore its habitability. Their ambitious "Zi-Forming" program to heal Earth's environment collapses, however, leaving the globe ravaged—racked by violent weather and teeming with roaming Zoids—and the settlers struggling to survive. Two generations after the exodus, life on the battered Earth has hardened into a tense frontier. Rival communities aligned with the Empire and the Republic scour the land for dormant Zoids buried beneath the surface, excavating the ancient machines to strengthen their war forces. The story follows second-generation Earth natives Leo Conrad and Buzz Cunningham, whose chance encounter with a fleeing young woman, Sally Land, draws them into a dangerous conflict between warring factions and the primal forces that now rule the planet.
