Netflix shows awaiting renewal : late 2026 predictions
As of late October 2026, Netflix still has a surprisingly long list of scripted series sitting in limbo, waiting for a green light or a quiet cancellation notice. Tracking these renewal decisions is part of what we do daily, and right now the picture is particularly complex. Some shows have strong data behind them; others are clinging on by a thread.
Shows with strong renewal odds heading into November 2026
A handful of titles look close to certain. The Diplomat season 5 tops that list. Season 4 dropped on October 15 and debuted with 4.8 million views and 33.5 million hours in its first week, charting in 58 countries. The opening week figures across all four seasons have gone 8.5M, 5.6M, 4.8M, 4.8M, meaning the decay has essentially stopped. Add Allison Janney's Emmy, strong reviews and enthusiastic backing from Netflix's leadership, and a fifth season feels close to inevitable. The only hesitation : Netflix hasn't renewed it ahead of release this time, and the multi-country shoot was expensive. Week 2 and 3 numbers will likely seal the deal.
Lupin Part 5 is arguably even closer to confirmed. Part 4 arrived October 23 and immediately landed in the Top 10 across 62 countries, reaching number 1 in 40 of them including France. Writer Florent Meyer mentioned at a Netflix book festival panel that the team is already working on a fifth instalment, and the finale makes a follow-up feel structurally necessary. Netflix France has never been shy about this franchise.
Among non-English originals, Elite Force (France) recorded the biggest French scripted debut of the year with 10.1 million views and 49.6 million hours in week 1. The Dutch thriller The Perfect Lie hit 7.0 million views in its second week. Sweden's Blood Sacrifice, the first post-Lupin project from George Kay, opened at 7.0 million and topped the non-English chart. All three lean toward renewal.
Here are additional titles we consider likely to return, based on viewership trajectory and regional patterns :
- Nobody Wants This (Season 4), 6.2M views in four days for season 3, though the trend is declining (down 28% from season 2's opening).
- Bloodhounds (Season 3), Netflix Korea rarely announces quickly; five-week total of 19.8M views is remarkable retention.
- Not a Stranger (Season 2, Turkey), Topped the non-English chart for two consecutive weeks.
- XO, Kitty (Season 4), Gentle decay across three seasons; no announcement yet despite quick prior renewals.
The real coin tosses : shows where the data gives no clear answer
Several series sit in genuinely uncertain territory. Man on Fire season 2 is the most frustrating case. It opened at 11.0 million views at number 1 on the English TV chart, grew 15% in week 2, and its two-week total of 23.6 million put it ahead of 1899, The Recruit and The Diplomat season 1 among comparable action dramas. Yet six months have passed without a renewal. The budget, reportedly a costly multi-country shoot, seems to be the sticking point.
Hollywood Arts season 2 is a genuine 50/50. The Victorious spin-off opened under 2.5 million views in its first four days. That's weak, but the comparison to Bet, which also opened at 2.4 million before surging in week 2 and getting renewed, keeps us from writing it off entirely. Week 2 numbers will be decisive.
| Show | Week 1 views | Our prediction |
|---|---|---|
| Man on Fire S2 | 11.0M | 50/50, trending negative |
| Leanne S3 | Below 2.2M | 50/50, possible wrap-up season |
| Haunted Hotel S3 | Below chart cutoff (W1) | 50/50, scripts reportedly ready |
| Hollywood Arts S2 | Under 2.5M | 50/50, week 2 is decisive |
| Bad Thoughts S3 | 3.8M (S1 benchmark) | Leaning cancellation |
Beef season 3 is a special case. Season 2 with Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac was a critical success but drew just 2.4 million views in its debut week, down 58% from season 1. It finished as the weakest of nine comparable Thursday premieres. Lee Sung Jin remains on an overall deal with Netflix, so the brand isn't dead, but expect a long hiatus rather than a prompt renewal.
Cancellations we see coming and shows worth watching elsewhere
Stranger Things : Tales from '85 needs a fresh pickup after fulfilling its two-season order. Season 2 barely cracked the Top 10 in a handful of countries, mostly near the bottom, and ranked eighth on the US Kids chart. The showrunner has openly asked fans to push viewing numbers. Netflix might keep it alive while the main Stranger Things wraps up, but the data makes it an uphill climb.
Cyberpunk : Edgerunners season 3 looks unlikely as a direct continuation. Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor was candid : without the right story and the right creative team, a third season may simply not happen. Think of it as on ice rather than cancelled, similar to how Love, Death and Robots operates. First-week numbers for season 2 (dropped October 20) land Tuesday and could shift that read.
Among the crime thriller series leaving Netflix, some departures are reshaping what the platform prioritises in the action and suspense space, which may indirectly influence renewal decisions for shows like Man on Fire and Blood Sacrifice. On the South African front, The Polygamist (still charting in week 7 across 22 episodes) and Umthetho (hours up 108% week-over-week) both lean toward renewal. Delhi Crime season 4 appears increasingly likely for Netflix India despite no formal announcement yet. If we've misjudged any of these calls, the weekly Top 10 data will correct us soon enough.
