New releases on Netflix this week : top 10 picks

Luxurious home cinema with comfortable seating and movie snacks

Forty-four new titles landed on Netflix US between October 11 and October 17, 2026. Not as massive as the 65-title drop from the previous week, but what this lineup lacks in volume, it compensates with sheer star power. From a Michael Mann crime epic shot in the mid-nineties to a completely unhinged Netflix Original thriller packed with A-listers, there's a lot to dig through. Here's our team's breakdown of the week's most notable additions.

The titles you actually need to watch this week

Let's start with the obvious. Sacrifice (2026) is the kind of film that makes our tracking job genuinely fun. Directed by Romain Gavras (known for Athena), it stars Chris Evans as a washed-up action star who ends up kidnapped during a charity gala by a radical cult convinced that three human sacrifices must be thrown into a volcano within 72 hours to prevent the apocalypse. The cult's leader ? Anya Taylor-Joy. The supporting cast includes Vincent Cassel, Salma Hayek Pinault, John Malkovich, and Charli xcx. It divided critics when it premiered at TIFF, but Gavras himself described it as "a roller coaster you just strap into." That's a fair description. Runtime is 1h 41m, rated R.

Right behind it, The Diplomat returns for season 4, and it picks up exactly where that brutal season 3 cliffhanger left off. Keri Russell's Kate Wyler now has to navigate the fallout of President Grace Penn (played by Allison Janney) and VP Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) secretly engineering the theft of a Russian nuclear weapon. All eight episodes dropped Thursday, October 16. Already sitting at #11 on the TV chart after just two days, it should crack the top 10 by next weekend.

For reality viewers, Love Is Blind season 11 relocated to Boston, with 30 singles entering the pods. After season 9 famously ended with zero weddings, there's real pressure on this cast. Nick and Vanessa Lachey are back as hosts. Five episodes dropped on Wednesday, with new batches arriving every Wednesday through to the finale. Currently at #8 on the TV chart.

Heat (1995) also joined the library this week. Michael Mann's three-hour heist epic with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro is one of those films that simply holds up. If you haven't revisited it lately, this is the push you needed. And for Halloween season : Cocaine Bear (2023), directed by Elizabeth Banks, is very loosely based on a real 1985 incident in which a black bear in Georgia consumed cocaine dropped from a smuggler's plane. It's bloody, ridiculous, and currently sitting at #10 on the movies chart.

What the charts actually tell us about viewing habits

On the movies side, Ben Affleck's Animals dominates at #1 with 80 points. He directed, co-wrote, and starred in this political kidnapping thriller. Reviews have been rough, but the audience clearly doesn't care. Doing Life holds at #2 (68 points), and the Ice Age franchise is running an unlikely marathon : the original 2002 film climbed to #3 (45 points), with Collision Course at #4 (43 points), and two other entries still in the top 12.

The TV chart tells a different story. Below, the Josh Hartnett sea creature limited series set in Newfoundland, jumped from #13 to #1, scoring 80 points after a full week of word-of-mouth. That's one of the sharpest single-week climbs we've tracked in months. East of Eden, the Florence Pugh-led Steinbeck adaptation, holds at #2 (55 points) despite losing the top spot.

  • Is It Cake ? Halloween debuted at #3 (38 points)
  • Instadocs : AI Gone Wild, covering this past summer's Hugging Face hack, landed at #4 (34 points)
  • The four-part TYSON docuseries arrived at #6 (29 points)
  • The Trap, the German psychological thriller adapted from Melanie Raabe's novel, sits at #15 (8 points) with real room to grow

The Trap deserves more attention than its current chart position suggests. The six-part series comes from the team behind the International Emmy-winning Dear Child, and follows a reclusive author (Friederike Becht) who believes she spotted her sister's killer on television. She writes a novel based on the crime and lures the suspect into her home for an interview. Tightly constructed, genuinely unsettling, perfect for October.

What to add to your watchlist beyond Netflix this month

If you're tracking availability across platforms, this week's Netflix haul is strong, but it's not the only place seeing significant additions in October. Other streaming services are also rolling out major titles this month, and keeping tabs on all of them is exactly the kind of thing we do. For a full picture of what's arriving elsewhere, check out our guide to what's coming to HBO Max in October with all new releases listed.

One practical tip for this specific week : pace yourself with Love Is Blind season 11. Netflix is releasing episodes in batches every Wednesday through November, so binge-watching now means a wait ahead. Spreading it out works better, especially with The Diplomat season 4's eight episodes already fully available and ready for a proper weekend run.
