What's coming to Disney+ in August : UK/Ireland guide
August 2026 brings over 30 new titles to Disney+ across the UK and Ireland, from anime returning with fresh episodes to original series signed by some of television's most ambitious creators. New series and returning shows to queue up this August
The most talked-about premiere of the month lands on Thursday 6th August : FX's The Shards, a two-episode debut set in 1980s Los Angeles. The show follows a group of elite prep school seniors navigating identity, obsession and something genuinely dangerous lurking beneath the surface of their privileged world. Ryan Murphy productions tend to polarise audiences, and this one looks no different. Episodes drop weekly on Thursdays.
Monday 3rd August kicks off with a double bill from Futurama (Season 14), which returns with its signature mix of space pirates, lab-grown meat and absurdist humour. Dr. Zoidberg's lost love makes a surprise comeback. New episodes follow every Monday throughout the month, same day as Furious, the FBI thriller created by Elizabeth Meriwether and starring Emmy Rossum as an agent hunting a calculating female serial killer. Both shows anchor the Monday schedule for the entire month.
Wednesday 5th August introduces Star Wars : Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi, a new series following Lah Kara as she trains under Margrave Juro and embarks on a quest to save her father. On the same day, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place returns for its third season : Billie must reunite with her estranged father to rescue her mother, with the Russo family reuniting to face a growing threat.

Friday 7th August brings Flex X Cop back for its second season. After completing the police academy, Isoo finds himself partnered with his former drill instructor, now heading the violent crimes unit. The comedic tension between the two carries the show, and the first season built a solid following on the platform. New episodes drop every Friday and Saturday throughout August.
Wednesday 28th August launches Adults Season 2 with two episodes. Over eight episodes, the housemates tackle uncomfortable adult questions : loving a boring job, regressing around family, and the elaborate emotional workarounds we invent to avoid honest conversations. Films, documentaries and exclusive specials not to miss
Thursday 20th August brings Lion, produced by Jon Favreau (director of The Lion King) and BBC Studios' Mike Gunton. Filmed over four years, it follows a cub named Kio from birth to leadership. Four years of filming for a natural history series is genuinely unusual, and the combination of cinematic storytelling with wildlife documentary craft puts this in a different category from standard nature content.
Thursday 13th August, Travis Barker : Louder Than Fear arrives. The documentary traces Barker's journey from collecting trash in Laguna Beach to becoming the drummer who defined a generation with Blink-182, before a devastating plane crash reshaped everything. Collaborators and cultural figures appear throughout. It's a music documentary with real emotional stakes.
Three titles worth noting for specific audiences :
- Camp Rock 3 (14th August) : Connect 3 returns to Camp Rock to find their next opening act, with the expected mix of rivalry, romance and musical showdowns.
- LEGO Disney Princess : Magical Mayhem (21st August) : aimed at younger viewers, with princess characters managing chaos caused by mischievous animals during a rainstorm.
- 9/11 Reunited (22nd August, all episodes) : a documentary series reuniting people connected by the September 11th attacks.
Wednesday 26th August drops something genuinely unusual : a Simpsons exclusive episode titled "Yellow Mirror". A defective lamp distorts Homer's perception of reality, while an AI tablet manipulates Maggie. Disney+ has been commissioning exclusive Simpsons content since the show moved to the platform, and this two-story format feels like a deliberate experiment in darker territory for the franchise.
Documentaries and true crime worth your attention
Saturday 1st August opens the month with Time & Water, a documentary following Icelandic poet Andri Snær Magnason as he watches his country's glaciers disappear. Using family archives, photographs and traditional songs, the film weaves personal memory with environmental reality. It's quiet and specific, which tends to make this kind of documentary land harder than something more sweeping.
Sunday 30th August introduces 20/20 Britain's Most Notorious Crime Investigations, which reopens six high-profile UK cases, including the disappearance of Ben Needham and the murders connected to Peter Tobin. The series brings ABC News' 20/20 brand to a British context, with exclusive interviews and reported new details. Monday 31st August then closes the month with The Killing of Claire Leveque, another true crime addition.
