8: The Mormon Proposition

Synopsis

Reed Cowan, a filmmaker and former member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, investigates the church’s nationwide campaign to block the legalization of same-sex marriage, with particular attention to its involvement in California’s 2008 Proposition 8. Drawing on leaked internal documents, public remarks by senior church leaders and other sources, the film reconstructs three decades of organized efforts — notably through the church-supported National Organization for Marriage — to resist the expansion of LGBT civil rights.
