Is the movie My Octopus Teacher available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Apple TV+?
At Stream Tracker, we follow where films actually swim — and My Octopus Teacher (2020) is one that stays close to the kelp. The documentary follows Craig Foster’s daily dives into the cold Atlantic off South Africa, where a curious young octopus leads him to a remarkable, trust-based bond between human and wild animal. Shot amid swaying kelp and rocky dens, the film’s intimate underwater moments and slow, patient observation earned it the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2021. My Octopus Teacher was released as a Netflix original, so Netflix is the primary home for the film — it’s not generally carried by Disney+, Prime Video or Apple TV+ in most regions. Streaming rights can change by country, so check Stream Tracker for the latest availability across Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV+.
Synopsis
For years Craig Foster swam daily in the frigid seas off Africa’s southern tip, until an unexpected teacher emerged: a young, unusually curious octopus. He returned to her lair again and again, shadowing her explorations for months, gradually earning her trust and forging an intimate, extraordinary connection between human and wild animal.
