Synopsis
In the wake of the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel’s swift victory and occupation of Jerusalem, Gaza, the Sinai and the West Bank was widely hailed as a moral triumph and a source of national pride. Just one week later, a circle of young kibbutz members led by the writer Amos Oz recorded intimate conversations with soldiers returning from the front. Those tapes capture a stark, revealing moment when triumph also brought a troubling shift in Israel’s identity — from embattled underdog to dominant power. Military censors suppressed most of the material, allowing only a short excerpt to be released; Censored Voices now brings the original recordings to light for the first time.
