Synopsis
On February 23, 1945, Joe Rosenthal captured an image of five Marines and a Navy corpsman planting the American flag on the summit of Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima. This film traces the lives of three of the men who survived that moment—John “Doc” Bradley, Private René Gagnon and Private Ira Hayes—following their combat experiences, the aftermath of sudden fame, and the personal costs of the brutal campaign to wrest the island from Japanese control.
