Synopsis

On 22 June 1941, the first German blow fell on the Brest Fortress, and the film follows the desperate resistance of its defenders during those opening days. Action centers on three principal pockets of defence led respectively by regimental commander Pyotr Mikhailovich Gavrilov, commissar Efim Moiseevich Fomin and Andrey Mitrofanovich Kizhevatov, head of the 9th frontier outpost, as they refuse to yield to overwhelming odds.
