Synopsis

Ahmed turns his back on his peasant origins, fleeing his native village to build a prosperous life as a businessman and secure a place among the bourgeoisie. His childhood friend Azem takes a very different route: rejecting the rat race, he stays close to the rural poor and commits himself to political action aimed at serving his country and revitalizing neglected countryside communities. When they reunite, Azem’s ideals and presence force Ahmed to confront the hollowness of his success and the compromises that have defined his life.
