Is the movie Manderlay available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Apple TV+?
At Stream Tracker, we take a look at Manderlay (2005), Lars von Trier’s austere follow-up to Dogville: a grim fable set in 1933 Alabama where a young woman and her father find a plantation whose inhabitants still live as if slavery never ended. Behind the heavy gates, she feels compelled to stay, to liberate the people and shepherd them through their first harvest — a moral siege that turns the plantation into a stage for power, duty and the long shadows of the past. This article checks where you can watch Manderlay today — is it on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or AppleTV+? We’ll tell you which platforms currently carry the film and how to stream it, and give a quick note on its reception: the film provoked strong reactions on release and did not walk away with major festival prizes, but it remains a provocative, theatrical exploration of emancipation and authority.
Synopsis
In 1933, a young woman and her father come upon an Alabama estate where the people are kept under conditions that mimic slavery. Driven by a conviction to help those confined behind its heavy gates, she chooses to remain and oversee their transition to freedom, guiding them through their first harvest as liberated workers. With four of her father's associates and an attorney at her side, she must tackle the formidable task of transforming the place known as Manderlay into a new, functioning community.
