Synopsis

Penniless after the war, pulp Western writer Holly Martins arrives in Vienna expecting to stay with an old friend, only to learn the man has been killed. When whispers of an alleged "third man" at the scene surface, Martins becomes determined to uncover what really happened, clashing with the British investigator Major Calloway and growing close to Anna, the grieving woman who loved the deceased.
