Synopsis
A deadly pursuit to be the first to summit K2 in winter exposes a sport at a crossroads: lives are lost, loyalties fray, and long-simmering inequalities surface. This documentary follows the tangled human and commercial forces reshaping high-altitude climbing—where sponsorship, social media spectacle, and pay-to-climb enterprises collide with the ambitions of climbers from less privileged backgrounds. Centered on a fraught 2021 push, the film tracks Iceland's John Snorri Sigurjónsson and Pakistani father-and-son team Muhammad Ali and Sajid Sadpara as they attempt the world’s most forbidding winter ascent. Their effort becomes inseparable from a larger, chaotic tableau that includes influencers and their film crews, clients of commercial outfits, and Nims—an acclaimed Nepalese mountaineer—and his Sherpa team, revealing a moving and complex portrait of an industry and culture in transformation.
