At Stream Tracker, we help you find where classic films are streaming across Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV+. John Ford’s The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) is a spare, often melancholy Western: a senator returns to a frontier town and recalls how Tom Doniphon and a young lawyer stood up to the outlaw Liberty Valance, forcing a final showdown that asks whether legend or truth shapes a community. Not exactly a prize‑heavy release on its first run, the film has nonetheless grown in stature as a touchstone of the genre. Read on and we’ll tell you which platform currently carries this tale of dust, honor and gunfire.
Synopsis
At a small frontier funeral, a visiting senator's presence stirs memories of his past with the deceased Tom Doniphon. In flashback, we learn Doniphon pulled the senator—then a young lawyer—out of danger after a brutal beating by a gang led by the feared Liberty Valance. As the territory teetered on the brink, Doniphon and the future senator stood among the few to oppose Valance, each playing a vital but very different part in the fight to reclaim the town.
