Synopsis
Jean‑Louis Joubert is a buttoned‑up stockbroker whose life is governed by routine and social appearances. He is married to Suzanne, a stiff, class‑conscious woman, and is the distant father of two proud teenage sons sent away to boarding school. His comfortable existence feels increasingly empty—until a chance event brings Maria, the new maid, into his household. Warm, lively and unpretentious, Maria leads him up to the sixth‑floor staff quarters of the elegant building he owns, where a spirited group of Spanish housemaids live and work. Immersed in their music, jokes and everyday solidarity, Jean‑Louis is slowly drawn out of his rigidity. Through their companionship—and most of all through his growing bond with Maria—he rediscovers emotion, joy and a more open, humane way of living, becoming a very different, better man.
