Synopsis
At the height of his fame, Serge Tanneur abandons the stage and retreats to a solitary life on a windswept island off France’s Atlantic coast. Three years later Gauthier Valence, a popular TV star poised to make his first film, arrives with an irresistible offer: a part in his directorial debut, a new take on Molière’s The Misanthrope. Serge refuses at first, then proposes they rehearse the opening scene—he’ll decide after five days whether he will return to acting. What follows is a tense, cunning duel between two strong personalities, disrupted by quirky, revealing encounters with a hotel maid who dreams of becoming a porn actress and an elegant Italian divorcée, forcing both men to face their pride, vulnerabilities and the compromises required by love and art.
