Is the movie Topsy Turvy available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Apple TV+?
At Stream Tracker, we take a backstage pass to Topsy-Turvy (1999), Mike Leigh’s lavish period drama that turns the world of Victorian operetta into a living, breathing stage. Centered on the creative — and often turbulent — partnership of Gilbert and Sullivan during the making of The Mikado, the film is rich in costume, pitch-perfect period detail and intimate, backstage drama. Topsy-Turvy earned critical acclaim and major awards for its craft, notably receiving Academy recognition for its costume and makeup work. In this article we’ll lift the curtain on where you can stream the film now — whether it’s available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or AppleTV+ — and how to catch it from the comfort of your own front row.
Synopsis
Renato is a lively grandfather whose frail, ailing body keeps him confined to his mountaintop home, where he stares out at the sea and dreams of returning to it. His three grown children, convinced they know what he needs, take charge of his life without ever consulting him: Montserrat has sacrificed her own hopes to care for him and now longs to reclaim her life; Anita, the middle daughter, finds herself unexpectedly pregnant at 45 and trapped in a failing marriage, so consumed by her own disillusionment that she misses the struggles of others—even her own child; and Salvador, the youngest, is haunted by their mother’s tragic death and survives by living in a perpetual present, evading the pain that anchors him.
