Is the TV show Goodness Gracious Me available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Apple TV+?

Here at Stream Tracker, we’re digging into Goodness Gracious Me — the bhangra‑backed sketch show that started on BBC Radio 4 before jumping to BBC Two in 1998 — to tell you whether you can watch it on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or Apple TV+. Starring Sanjeev Bhaskar, Kulvinder Ghir, Meera Syal and Nina Wadia, the series turned lassi‑fuelled evenings, role‑reversals like “going out for an English,” and jokes about chicken phall and endless papadums into sharp, memorable comedy. Even the theme is a bhangra take on the Peter Sellers/Sophia Loren tune, and one famous sketch — the “going out for an English” vignette — was voted the 6th Greatest Comedy Sketch on Channel 4. Below, the Stream Tracker team checks current streaming availability and where to find the show (and its best sketches) right now.

Goodness Gracious Me

Synopsis

A British sketch comedy that began on BBC Radio 4 in 1996 before moving to BBC Two in 1998, running on television until 2001, Goodness Gracious Me starred Sanjeev Bhaskar, Kulvinder Ghir, Meera Syal and Nina Wadia. The ensemble mined humour from the meeting point of Indian cultural traditions and contemporary British life, sometimes flipping the camera to view Britain through an Indian lens and at other times lampooning stereotypes within South Asian communities. On television, many of the typically white characters were portrayed by Dave Lamb and Fiona Allen, whereas in the radio version the regular cast covered those roles themselves. The show’s theme is a bhangra-styled take on the comic song originally sung by Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren in the 1960 film The Millionairess; the series initially had the working title "Peter Sellers is Dead" before being renamed. Meera Syal had earlier used the phrase "a goodness-gracious-me accent" in her 1996 novel Anita and Me. One of the programme’s best-known sketches reverses the familiar trope of Brits “going out for an Indian”: after a few lassis, the British characters go out for an “English,” mispronounce the waiter’s name, pick the blandest dish on the menu and request an absurd number of chip plates — a send-up of the way some Brits stereotype Indian dining habits. That particular sketch was later ranked sixth on a Channel 4 list of greatest comedy sketches.
