51 Birch Street

Synopsis

When his mother dies unexpectedly, documentary filmmaker Doug Block expects to mourn and move on — but his father's rapid remarriage to a former secretary forces him to reexamine everything he thought he knew about their 54-year relationship. As Block turns the camera on his family, hidden tensions, contradictions and long-buried choices surface, revealing parents who are far more complicated and human than the tidy story he’d been given. The resulting film is an intimate investigation into memory, marriage and the unsettling question of how much about our parents we really want to uncover.
