Is the movie A Private Life available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Apple TV+?
At Stream Tracker, we take a look at A Private Life (1989), a South African drama that confronts the personal toll of apartheid: Jack and Stella barred from marriage because she’s classified as "coloured," their attempt to build a life in a mixed neighbourhood, and their son Paul’s pain when he cannot marry his white girlfriend Andrea. This introduction sets the scene for a closer read of the film’s themes of forbidden love, racial classification and family, and — most importantly for viewers — where you can stream it today, including Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV+. If the film collected festival prizes or other awards, those will be listed below.
Synopsis
In apartheid-era South Africa, Jack and Stella are prohibited from marrying because Stella is officially classified as "coloured."
