Synopsis
When young playwright David Shayne lands financing for his play from mobster Nick Valenti, he also finds himself obliged to cast Nick’s girlfriend Olive as the production’s psychiatrist. Beautiful but unconvincing and almost hopeless on stage, Olive threatens to unravel rehearsals that are already strained by a compulsive-eating leading man, a temperamental grand dame demanding changes, and Olive’s overprotective enforcer who follows her everywhere. As tensions mount and the line between theatre and real life blurs, David is forced to choose whether to protect his artistic integrity or to put the fragile human lives tangled in the show before his work.
