Is the movie Gods and Monsters available on Netflix, Disney+, Prime or Apple TV+?
At Stream Tracker, we take a look at Gods and Monsters (1998), Bill Condon’s tender, haunting portrait of James Whale — the director who gave cinema Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and The Invisible Man. Set in 1957, the film follows a retired, semi-reclusive Whale as memories and images from his past haunt his quiet days, until a new gardener and the housekeeper Hannah stir an unlikely friendship that changes both men. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and earned major acting nods, and its blend of mortality, memory and the “monster” motif keeps Whale’s old studio lightning and graveyard shadows alive. In this article, we’ll check where you can watch it right now — Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or AppleTV+ — and how to find the film on each service.
Synopsis
By 1957, James Whale — the once-celebrated director behind landmark horror pictures like Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and The Invisible Man — has retreated from public life. Now retired and living largely in solitude, he drifts through his days amid keepsakes and memories of former glories. When his strict housekeeper Hannah hires a handsome young gardener, the pair form an improbable companionship: the flamboyant, world-weary artist and the plain, earnest laborer find in each other unexpected solace, a bond that will alter the course of both their lives.
