Synopsis
A meteor carrying an unknown, infectious organism crashes on the outskirts of a small California town, sparking a night of panic and death. Rancher Larry Jenkins finds the strange object just after midnight and calls the authorities. Inspector Bardo is sent out, but Lawton’s tiny police force is stretched thin — it’s prom night. On a remote forest road miles from town, Bardo discovers Jenkins already transformed; the officer is violently attacked and becomes infected himself. The two men stagger back toward Lawton, spreading the alien contagion to anyone in their path. Earlier, Cheryl and Timmy had slipped away from the prom and parked on Lover’s Lane; Bardo ambushes them and infects Timmy. Cheryl is forced to sprint into the pitch-black woods, pursued by the contaminated, as she races to reach help before the outbreak can surge beyond the town and toward L.A.
