Synopsis
1649. Cardinal Mazarin, alarmed that Cromwell's overthrow of the English throne could spark rebellion at home—especially from the popular Beaufort—recruits an impoverished D'Artagnan to locate the scattered musketeers. Porthos, bored with riches and craving a title, joins willingly; Aramis, now an abbé, and Athos, a rough-edged father raising an unusually learned son, quietly aid Beaufort. When they fail to prevent Beaufort's escape from prison, Mazarin brands them expendable and sends them to London on a desperate mission: rescue Charles I. Hunted by Justine, the vengeful daughter of Milady de Winter, the team must slip out of England, dodge her wrath, serve the Queen, and secure Beaufort's fragile political reforms before forces on both sides destroy them.
